When I’ve read the story of David’s moral failing, I’m not sure I ever noticed this little phrase before   Bathsheba’s husband dutifully answered David’s summons, and David sent him home, hoping that Uriah would sleep with Bathsheba and thus provide a cover for the pregnancy.
