Dec 08, · By Shaun Thompson. The Red Book of Thorney is an early fourteenth-century cartulary originally from Thorney Abbey in Cambridgeshire. It was donated to Cambridge University Library by Samuel Sanders at the end of the nineteenth century. Several books now widely regarded as literary milestones may also be found in Arc, including James Joyce’s frecklesandhoney.com by one critic at the time ‘a heap of dung, crawling with worms’, this first appeared in book form in Paris in February and the Library’s copy of the second impression (published in Paris for the London-based Egoist Press) arrived in the Library in December.
